Like any savvy businessperson operating in a free market society, Jim Hindman, the founder of Jiffy Lube, saw an opportunity opening up and he took it. For years and years, gas stations had provided full service to their customers by doing everything from oil changes to window washing, as well as simply filling up the tank.

He banded together seven different fast lube centers that were located in the western region of the United States. Right away, Jiffy Lube began franchising and today it has locations throughout North America and is owned entirely by the Pennzoil Quaker State Co. Since 2000, the number of franchises has grown slightly and today the company has more than 1,800 franchises in the United States and Canada.

Currently they are looking for eager entrepreneurs - most likely with experience in oil changing or some sort of business management - to take up franchises in the United States as well as outside the country in Canada and even in Mexico. Depending on where one decides to set up shop, the initial investment costs can range from $214,000 to $273,000.
